Pride GoGo Mg Mobility Scooter Review

A6 Mobility Shop are thrilled to be among the first retailers to release the brand new Pride GoGo Mg. Meeting the demand for lighter single piece mobility scooters, Pride have created this new model weighing under 15kg – wow!

The Mg is the latest addition to Pride’s popular ‘GoGo’ range. This is Pride’s collection of smaller portable boot scooters. At time of writing, there are around 8 models in the Pride GoGo range so make sure not to confuse the Mg with the GoGo Elite Traveller 2.0, GoGo Elite Traveller Plus, GoGo Endurance or GoGo Elite Traveller Sport. Whilst all of these other mobility scooters have their individual merits, none are as light as the brand new Mg.

At A6 Mobility Shop in Stockport, we only stock and recommend mobility scooters that we genuinely believe to be a quality, reliable option. Established in 1992, we have been supplying and servicing mobility scooters for over 35 years. We have stocked Pride products for over 25 years. We therefore consider ourselves to be well placed to evaluate and review new mobility scooters and share our thoughts.

In creating this review, we took the Pride GoGo Mg for a test ride. Read on to get our thoughts, discover the features and see how this new Pride mobility scooter stacks up against its rivals.

Pride GoGo Mg Weight / Portability

The Pride GoGo Mg has been designed to be light and portable. With a total weight of 14.75kg, mission accomplished. The GoGo Mg is among the lightest mobility scooters available.

The weight is kept to a minimum thanks to a sturdy magnesium alloy frame. Pride have maintained a low weight by limiting unnecessary extras. For example, the seat has a back but without a cushion or full back cover. Because the mobility scooter will mostly be used on flat surfaces, there is no need for heavy suspension springs.

The Pride GoGo Mg is a single piece mobility scooter. By that, we mean that the scooter does not disassemble. The seat does not come off and the rear axle cannot be removed. Instead of disassembling the scooter, this model folds down. Simply pull the plunger by the side of the seat and the seat itself folds flat onto the footplate. Next, loosen the tiller cog which drops onto a bracket on the back of the now folded seat. The process is extremely easy and takes less than 20 seconds.

Although 14.75kg is manageable for a lot of people, this mobility scooter does not need to be picked up in just one heave. In our experience, the front end of the GoGo Mg can be propped against the boot whilst the user lifts the back end and rolls the scooter into the car.

The standard battery pack on this mobility scooter is both airline and cruise ship compliant, making the Pride GoGo Mg a great choice for travel.

Pride GoGo Mg Travel Range / Lithium Battery Options

The Pride GoGo Mg comes with a 10AH lithium battery pack as standard. The battery is removable and has an offboard charging port, meaning the scooter can be left in the car boot and you can conveniently just take the battery inside to charge up.

How long does the battery last on a GoGo Mg scooter?

We predict this battery will offer around 7-10 miles per charge. We took the GoGo Mg on a test run of approximately 2 miles on varying terrain and used around a quarter of the battery. We drove on mostly flat surfaces but be aware that factors such as rough ground, frequent stops, heavier drivers, colder weather and hills could reduce the range.

There is an option to upgrade to a 20AH battery pack which will offer significantly more miles per charge, we predict up to 15 miles.

The standard 10AH battery pack is permitted on aeroplanes and cruise ships but the larger 20AH upgrade is too large to pass airline requirements. For those that need more range and plan to travel, we have found that some people with similar scooters tend to opt for two standard 10AH batteries which are individually small enough to take on a plane.

Pride GoGo Mg Comfort

Whilst the Pride GoGo Mg isn’t the most comfortable mobility scooter for long periods of sitting, we found the seat and ride quality to be pleasant for its intended purpose. Heavier models will generally have thicker padded seats and possibly suspension to reduce jolts and bumps. However, the seat cushion on the GoGo Mg provided reasonable comfort during our test drive and we didn’t even notice the lack of full back cover. The lightly padded back bars were more than adequate.

Armrests do not come as standard on the Pride GoGo Mg but are available as an upgrade.

The wrap around ‘delta’ tiller was comfortable on the hands and would be most beneficial to drivers with sore joints and arthritis. The delta design allows the driver to rest their wrists and swap between using their right or left hand to operate the speed controls if one hand becomes fatigued or achy.

The Pride GoGo Mg does have a flatter footplate that its rivals which will especially appeal to taller drivers and those who struggle to bend their knees and want to keep their legs extended.

Mobility Scooter Rivals and Alternatives

The Pride GoGo Mg is the third mobility scooter of its kind. This model shares a similar design to both the Monarch Air and Komfi Rider Mirage. Whilst there aren’t too many differences at first glance, there are some considerations:

  • Komfi Rider Mirage has the most comfortable seat thanks to fully padded seat base and back rest.
  • Armrests are included as standard on the Komfi Rider Mirage. Armrests are an upgrade on both the Monarch Air and GoGo Mg.
  • The Monarch Air has a wider variety of accessories including a useful front bag.
  • Pride GoGo Mg and Monarch Air have a ‘delta’ tiller which may be more comfortable for drivers with arthritis in their hands. The Komi Rider Mirage has straight handlebars with speed controls operated by the fingers.
  • As the original ultralight flat folding scooter, we have far greater experience of the Monarch Air and are confident of its reliability. Likewise, we have had only good feedback about the Mirage. We do not expect any teething issues with the GoGo Mg because of Pride’s excellent reputation but do not yet have any longer term customer feedback.
  • Each mobility scooter has different colour options (Pride GoGo Mg: silver or black, Komfi Rider Mirage: blue, bronze/grey or purple, Monarch Air: grey, turquoise or red)

As an established and trusted mobility retailer, we like to provide our customers with options when choosing a mobility scooter. This way, you get to see which model works best for you rather than just opting for what’s available. For this reason we recommend visiting our showroom to try these mobility scooters for yourself.
