Supporting Stockport’s Chelwood Foodbank at Christmas

At A6 Mobility, we’re not just passionate about enhancing mobility and independence – we’re committed to making a positive impact in our local Stockport community. That’s why we’re proud to support Chelwood Foodbank, a vital organisation that has been providing crucial assistance to those in need since 2013.

Through our donations to Chelwood Foodbank, we’re helping families in Stockport experience a more joyful holiday season.

What is Chelwood Foodbank?

Chelwood Foodbank is an independent organisation dedicated to supporting individuals and families in Stockport who are struggling with food poverty. Unlike larger national charities, Chelwood operates solely on community contributions, allowing them to provide tailored assistance without the constraints of extensive administrative policies. This local focus enables Chelwood to respond quickly and effectively to the unique needs of Stockport residents.

Where are Chelwood Foodbank’s locations?

Chelwood Foodbank operates from three strategic locations across Stockport, ensuring accessibility for those in the most deprived areas:

Chelwood Baptist Church

Located at Adswood Road, Cheadle Hulme SK8 5QA, this foodbank operates from adjacent new portacabins. It’s open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Thursdays from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Brinnington Community Church

Situated at The Lighthouse Centre, Northumberland Road, Brinnington, SK5 8LS, this location serves the community every Wednesday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Chelwood Community Hub

Found at 2d Castle Street, Edgeley, SK3 9AB, this hub opens its doors on Mondays from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

These carefully chosen locations ensure that help is within reach for those who need it most, covering diverse areas of Stockport including Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Brinnington, and Edgeley.

How does Chelwood Foodbank Plus make a difference?

The impact of Chelwood Foodbank Plus on the Stockport community is profound. In the last 12 months alone, they have:

  • Issued 2,700 food parcels
  • Supported 4,050 adults
  • Helped 2,551 children
  • Delivered 210 beds

These figures underscore the critical role Chelwood plays in addressing food insecurity and poverty in Stockport. However, their support extends beyond just providing food. Chelwood Foodbank Plus offers a holistic approach to helping those in need, recognising that poverty often comes hand-in-hand with other challenges.

What services does Chelwood Foodbank Plus provide?

Chelwood Foodbank Plus offers a range of services to support individuals and families in Stockport:

  • Food Parcels: The core service, providing essential groceries to those facing food insecurity.
  • Toiletries: Recognising that personal hygiene items are often overlooked but crucial for dignity and health.
  • Bed Delivery: Ensuring that everyone has a comfortable place to sleep, which is vital for physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Financial Advice: Offering guidance to help individuals manage their finances and work towards financial stability.
  • Community Support: Creating a welcoming environment where people can find not just material aid, but also emotional support and a sense of belonging.

Why is community support crucial for Chelwood Foodbank?

As an independent organisation, Chelwood Foodbank relies entirely on community contributions. Unlike larger foodbank networks, they don’t receive support from supermarket agreements or national charities. This independence allows them to respond flexibly to local needs, but it also means that every donation, no matter how small, makes a significant difference.

The cost of living crisis has led to an increase in demand for Chelwood’s services. More families and individuals are finding themselves in need of support, often for the first time. Community backing is essential to ensure that Chelwood can continue to meet this growing demand and provide comprehensive support to those facing hardship.
