Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 Review

Introducing a brand new version of the popular Pride GoGo – this is the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2. The original Elite Traveller mobility scooter became a customer favourite because of its reliability and easy disassembly to fit in a car boot. In this review, we find out what’s new about the updated model and put it to the test…

At A6 Mobility Shop Stockport, we strongly approve of the original Pride GoGo Elite Traveller– it’s been around for what feels like decades and is a reliable, durable scooter. The lead acid batteries are relatively inexpensive to replace, and we rarely come across any technical issues.

However, in recent years the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller has begun to show its age. Other mobility scooters from manufacturers such as Komfi-Rider, Kymco, Roma and Drive Devilbiss as well as other models in the Pride line-up have surpassed the Elite Traveller with better technology, comfort and style. The Elite Traveller was due for an upgrade.

So, what’s new?

Tight Turn Technology

The biggest improvement on the updated Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is the unique turning technology. Whilst the scooter’s dimensions remain the same, the new version is the first to feature Pride’s patented tight turn technology. Whilst exact technical details seem to be kept undercover, the front wheels turn much more than other similarly sized scooters and the motor seems to push one rear wheel quicker to reduce the angle.

Pride have previously released mobility scooters specifically designed to require minimal turning space (the Zero Turn 8 and ZT10). The new GoGo Elite Traveller 2 has an even tighter turning circle than these other models and can turn a full circle in just 37 inches – impressive!

In reality, this is extremely useful for drivers who plan to take their mobility scooter into busy shops, workplaces and down narrow corridors. We tested the turning circle in our showroom and were able to spin 180 degrees without stopping in areas where we would usually need a 3-point turn.

The scooter slows down when turning for safety and feels stable and balanced even on a slope.

New Style Seat and Comfort

At first sight, we were dubious about the new seat style on the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2, namely the mesh back. We were absolutely wrong! This seat feels supportive, cushioned and comfortable. The mesh back has been designed to improve ventilation and airflow – Pride have addressed the issue of mobility scooter seats being hot and uncomfortable in warmer months.

The seat back itself is contoured to support the lower back and improve posture. Meanwhile, the padded seat base offers plenty of padding to reduce the impact of small jolts.

One minor drawback of the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is the lack of suspension. This mobility scooter is very comfortable on flat terrain but feels slightly firm over bumps. Most people driving the scooter on pavements and around shops will be very comfortable. However, drivers with sore joints and back issues should consider a mobility scooter with suspension, such as the Pride Apex Rapid or Pride Alumalite Plus.

Style and Colours

It feels like the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 has cosmetically evolved rather than been fully updated. Shaping has remained similar to the original model and the styling is consistent with Pride’s branding across their range of portable boot scooters.

The introduction of modern new colours is a much welcome addition and allows for more customisation. The previous generation was only available with slightly outdated red and blue body panels. This new version of the Elite Traveller 2 is now available in a selection of 8 contemporary colourways ranging from an understated matt black to pastel blue and bright eye-catching orange.

Batteries and Travel Range

The Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is available in 2 lead acid battery configurations: 12AH and 17AH. Although travel range varies significantly depending on temperature, driver weight, terrain and many other factors, we expect the smaller 12AH battery pack to offer a range of around 8 miles and the larger 17Ah option to offer around 14 miles.

These lead-acid batteries are much less costly to replace than the lithium batteries you’ll see on other mobility scooters. The batteries themselves can be switched out from inside the battery box, meaning you won’t need to buy a whole new pack when it’s time to replace them.

With good care, lead-acid mobility scooter batteries can last 3 years or more. We regularly see customers who look after their batteries get over 5 years of use before they need to replace the batteries.

At A6 Mobility Shop Stockport, we always encourage customers to use quality lead acid batteries from reputable manufacturers. Cheap online batteries are usually a false economy and cost more in the long term. They have a shorter life span and lower performance, meaning they’ll need replacing more often and the mobility scooter will get fewer miles per charge.

Portability

The Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is very simple to disassemble. This mobility scooter splits into 4 main pieces (plus the basket) and the heaviest piece weighs around 15kg. With a steel frame and lead acid battery pack, the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 feels extremely sturdy and safe.

With the constant improvement in lightweight metals and lithium battery packs, the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is nowhere near as light as other boot scooters on the market. However, mobility scooters made from aluminium, magnesium alloy or carbon fibre are significantly more expensive.

Is the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 a Good Mobility Scooter?

The Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is a fantastic mobility scooter. This mobility scooter is sturdy, reliable and comfortable to drive. This model disassembles to fit in a car boot and is mostly suited to shops, pavements and parks. Whilst the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 isn’t an ultra-lightweight mobility scooter, when disassembled each piece is manageable for most people to lift.

The main feature of this mobility scooter is Pride’s brand new tight turning technology which makes the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 an enticing choice for those who need to travel around busy shops and down narrow hallways.

Overall, the Pride GoGo Elite Traveller 2 is an excellent portable mobility scooter from a reputable manufacturer.
